Nineteen-year-old Mora is on a mission to save her village from the relentless greyskins, and there is only one man that can help her, Jeremiah of Screven. As she travels the wastelands, she discovers a power within herself, a power she believes no other human possesses. That is, until she meets others like her – the ones who call themselves the Starborn. These super-humans are on a mission also: to destroy the undead greyskins, and take down the greedy Jeremiah. Mora must now choose between the one who can keep her family safe, and those that can show her who she truly is.
During my zombie book phase I saved a bunch of zombie themed books to my TBR (to be read) list, including the first book of The Starborn Saga by Jason D. Marrow. Out of Darkness is set in a dark dystopian world, but is a little unique in its book theme. Not only does it have zombies, but it also includes characters with super powers.
Mora, the main character, has a large journey ahead of her. Zombies and saving her village are only a portion of that journey. New found powers with so much uncertainty in this dark world is not an easy feat.
There is some romance thrown into the storyline. Unfortunately, said romance is a love triangle. What does evolve, though, is rather interesting.
There is a total of 9 books in the series. Each set of 3 books has a different main character. Books 1 – 3 focus on nineteen year old Mora. Books 4 – 6 focus on seventeen year old Waverly. Definitely not Wynonna Earp’s technical sister, Earpers! Books 7 – 9 focus on twelve year old Skylar and her Father, Liam. The ninth book is the final books in the series.
Most of the books in the series are under 300 pages, so if you’re looking for a little bit of a darker read that won’t take forever to read then Out of Darkness might be a good place to start!
P.S. To the Kindle Readers, The Starborn Saga series is available on Kindle Unlimited!
